Leaf Land

A long time ago when I was a child I used to wonder where all leaves went when they fell off the trees.

Late one night when I went to bed I discovered it is a secret planet where children can go and no grown ups are allowed!

At the end of the summer and before winter starts, usually about September and October, conkers start to fall for children to collect them.

Just after this the leaves start to change colours from green to yellow and then to brown.

This is a sign for the wind to start blowing harder to help the leaves fall off the trees. So the leaves blow around gardens and up and down busy streets.

As I said one night I found out where all the leaves go. It’s a wonderful planet called Leaf Land where only children with hats, gloves and long scarves can go. Occasionally you find lost cuddly toys and teddy bears there.

When I first went there I just couldn’t believe it, everything was made out of leaves that had come from all over the world, there were mountains, rivers, seas, clouds, houses and even trees with leaves on.

I saw other boys and girls in their warm clothes kicking through the leaves and making big piles of leaves to jump in, and we know that you don’t hurt yourself if you fall over playing.

One day when I was crawling through a tunnel made out of leaves I saw a little face of a teddy bear that I lost when I was a toddler. I was pleased to see him and I think he was pleased that I found him again. Even now when I’m grown up he still sits on my bed.

Only little children know how special your favourite doll or teddy is and I remember the day I lost him! It was one of those really windy days we are talking about now, and poor teddy must have been blown away with the leaves to Leaf Land.

Anyway, getting back to Leaf Land I made so many friends there and even went to school with some off them.

We often talked about the fun we had there and how the wind blew our hats and scarves off.

When it was warm and sunny in the Leaf Land, and it does happen there sometimes, I went swimming in the sea made out of leaves. Only children know how to swim in leaves!

I saw leaf fish go swimming by, but the best thing was you never got wet and when we came out we built leaf castles on the leaf beach.

Another good thing was the leaf ball fights we had that didn’t hurt when they hit you and are not cold like snow.

After a day playing in leaf land you go home to your leaf house and get into your leaf bed that is so soft, cosy and warm that you just sink into it and fall asleep.

Next morning when you wake up all the fun starts again until the leaves start to go bad and then they lay on the ground and we have to wait another year before Leaf Land comes again and new children who have grown to small boys and girls go there to play again.

Some grown ups try to play with leaves but they don’t know the secret Leaf Land like we do.

Brombeer or blackberry

If you like these - then move to Germany!

Yes here they are!
The blackberries - or in German - Brombeere.

This is not a joke, Germans dont eat blackberries so you can have as may as you like! Germans think the whole country is invaded by foxes and that they are everywhere - in all gardens, by all roads and by every railway track! Even those that grow high up nobody pics!

And for some reason science-proved or not, the foxes in Germany are especially fond of blackberries and for that Germans dont touch them. So the Brombeere are all yours!
